Summer College Experience for Rising High School Juniors and SeniorsNorth Cross School is excited to announce a new partnership with Mary Baldwin University. Students will take a college-level Business, Marketing, and Entrepreneurship class taught by a Mary Baldwin University professor at the Higher Education Center in downtown Roanoke.
This three-week course meets from 9 am-12 pm, Monday-Friday and is open to rising juniors and seniors. Students who successfully complete the course will earn 3 college credits and a college transcript from Mary Baldwin University. These college credits are transferable and can be counted towards a student’s undergraduate degree. There will be periodic afternoon and weekend requirements during that timeframe as the course entails meeting with businesses and traveling to the University one weekend. ABOUT THE COURSE: The Business, Marketing, and Entrepreneurship course is a survey course representative of what a student would learn in a first-year college business class. This hands-on course will provide students with an overview of sustainability from the perspective of business, economics, environmental studies, and sociology. Students will be asked to explore financial, social, and environmental responsibilities of companies and explore principles in marketing strategy, management theory, and corporate financial management. Students gain understanding of these concepts through presentations, problem-solving, and analytical and creative projects. Outside of the classroom, students will take tours of local businesses in a variety of industries to gain first-hand knowledge of what it takes to run a successful business. North Cross School’s upper school internship program has connections with hospitals, insurance companies, furniture manufacturers, architectural and design firms, hotels and tourist institutions, museums, etc. FEES: There is a $500 course fee and $145 textbook associated with the class. |
