As promised, I am following up with the community on our first round of COVID-19 testing. I appreciate your patience and willingness to come to campus for testing, and we have tested all faculty, staff and students, but for a few students still in the admissions process. These latest students will be required to produce a negative COVID test prior to coming to school.
Over the past several days, we have tested 622 faculty, staff and students. We have had three asymptomatic positive results, a contract employee who had not yet set foot on campus, and two ECP students. In all cases, a 14-day quarantine from the time of testing was implemented. In the case of the first ECP student, a sibling and a parent/employee are also being treated as positive and have been asked to quarantine for 14 days. As for the second ECP student, we were already aware of a positive COVID test result for this student, and quarantine had already begun.
The newly diagnosed student was a faculty child that had spent time in our faculty child care on campus. We identified two additional North Cross students that had sufficiently close contact to warrant a 5-day quarantine and an additional negative COVID test. The student testing positive had only been on campus one day since they were tested on Monday morning.
Both cases will be reported to the local Department of Health, and we immediately began contact tracing on campus. Each of these cases was presented to the Medical Advisory Group, and our response was considered prudent and sufficient.
A couple of comments following our first round of testing:
This is definitely a school opening like no other and the faculty and staff have been working unbelievably hard in an environment that has incredible uncertainty. It has been tiring, but, that being said, we are headed into Labor Day weekend with many new classrooms, an exciting new campus, a full school, and a great degree of optimism.
Don’t let the subject matter of this letter prevent you from having a safe and enjoyable Labor Day weekend. I look forward to seeing folks in carpool on Tuesday.
