Frequently Asked Questions
Does a family re-pay a merit award?
No, an award is a grant, not a loan. An award functions as a reduction in the tuition charged. As students graduate and grow their own careers, we encourage and appreciate donations to the North Cross School Annual Fund as a way to support future students.
Are the standards for awards the same for current and prospective students?
Yes, the same high standards apply and must be met by every merit scholarship applicant.
Once I have received a merit-based scholarship, will I receive it every year?
To retain eligibility for merit-based scholarships, recipients must maintain a two-year cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better with no individual trimester GPA of less than 3.33.
Are families required to submit financial information to apply for a merit-based scholarship?
No, financial information is not required for the merit-based scholarship application. However, we encourage families to apply for all available options for funding.
Do other independent schools offer merit-based aid?
Yes. Schools outside and within Virginia such as Carlisle School, Virginia Episcopal School, and Chatham Hall all offer these scholarships.
