Eighth grade students enrolled in Graphic Arts and Creative Writing enjoyed a field trip to The Roanoke Times in downtown Roanoke Monday morning. The trip included a tour of the business and the impressive Heidelberg Mainstream 80, the newspaper's state-of-the-art printing press. It was the first of its kind to be purchased by a United States' newspaper in 2001. Students also talked with one of the newspaper's graphic designers and learned about his contributions to the daily publication.
Creative Writing teacher Robin Garrett has introduced her students to two professional writers recently as guest speakers in her class. The first, Heath Lee, visited on Tuesday, April 26, and talked about her upcoming book, Vietnam War Wives. She also discussed her writing process and some tips for students interested in publishing their own works.
