Where did you grow up? Roanoke, VA
What’s the one thing your students don’t know about you? My first experience at North Cross was as a student in Pre-Kindergarten in 1992! I vividly remember doing center rotations and practicing independent, task-based skills based on Montessori methods.
What’s your teaching passion? What motivates you? There is nothing more wonderful than seeing your students having tons of fun while learning! Crafting lessons that will get students up, moving, laughing, and working together to accomplish a goal are the moments I treasure.
What was your favorite book you read in school? The first book I can recall taking off with was Roald Dahl’s Matilda when I was in Third Grade. I remember reading the first 50 pages the afternoon I got the book and truly feeling like I was reading for pleasure for the first time.
When you're listening to music, who's playing? Coldplay, Snarky Puppy, and Classical Music for Quiet Times
If you didn't teach, what would you be doing instead? I would love to be a travel writer for Foder’s. I have always enjoyed writing and I’m always up for an adventure! I’d welcome the opportunity to review museums, restaurants, hotels, and places to see off the beaten path.
What's your favorite North Cross tradition? I think it’s so sweet when the North Cross faculty, staff, and board members are allowed to hand the diplomas out to their own children at Graduation. I can only imagine what a joyful culmination of the North Cross experience that must be for both parent and graduate.
When your students move to the next grade, what is the most important lesson you want them to have learned? In the immediate future, I want my students to have math fact fluency and know how to write complete sentences. In the long term, I want students to have the confidence to be self-starters and take ownership in their work and choices.
