What's one thing we might not know about you?
A few things! I have been a magician’s assistant, a singer in a rock band, and I used to work in a traveling coffee house made out of a converted school bus. Also, my two brothers are alums, Mike Samarasinghe ’06 and Mark Samarasinghe ’99.
What’s your passion here? What motivates you to do what you do?
My relationships with the students of Willis Hall are my passion. It’s so much fun to see how they grow up in the span of four years. I genuinely value the connections I make with them and their families and it’s a tremendous feeling to know I have helped a student in even a small way.
Who do you consider as your mentor, and what have you learned from them?
The late, great David Yeargan was my set and light design professor at Skidmore College. He taught me to climb the highest ladders without fear and to focus my lights with great attention to detail.
When you're listening to music, who's playing?
At the moment Lana del Rey and Florence + The Machine
Do you have a particular North Cross memory that stands out? What's your favorite North Cross tradition?
Traveling with NCS students this past summer in Europe was amazing. I had the chance to see our kids “in the field” and I was consistently impressed with their maturity and positivity. SO MUCH FUN! My favorite NCS tradition is Muses at Bay.
If you could say something to the students here at North Cross, what would you say?
Eat healthy, drink water, get enough sleep and exercise. Also read books and don’t be afraid to try new things!
