Over a two-week period, beginning Tuesday, March 15, all lower school students will participate in a series of workshops each morning. Students will work in groups that consist of students from different grades. The program is structured to stimulate cross-grade, multidisciplinary exploration of literature, performance, communication, and design. The common component to the program will be the poem “If” by Rudyard Kipling. This is the first time a project like this has been attempted using elementary-aged students. The students will present a final exhibit or performance on Thursday, March 24.
As part of the process, senior students from Virginia Tech will create a 360-degree video documentary of the process to display at Virginia Tech’s ICAT Day on May 2 in Blacksburg. The VT seniors will work with North Cross students to develop experience profiles, so that when a person visits the exhibit on ICAT Day, he or she can engage with a student profile to get a first-hand perspective of the experience.
The workshops at North Cross on March 15, 16, 17, 21, the final exhibit or performance on March 24, and ICAT Day on May 2 in Blacksburg, are open to credentialed media. Please coordinate with Rebekah Bradley if you would like more information on the workshop itinerary or if you plan to attend any of the events.
