On Wednesday Eaton Hall students participated in the annual Middle School Community Service Day. The day started off with a gathering in the quad where students were encouraged to take their school spirit with them to their destinations, and make sure to leave a great impression at the agencies they serve. After a group cheer we set out to serve at over 10 agencies in the Roanoke Valley.
Mrs. Farley and Ms. Jones took two groups to Richfield Retirement Community where they began the day playing basketball and other physical activities with the residents. After that some students passed out activity calendars while others helped the residents with their lunch. In the afternoon students spent one on one time with the residents giving them a loving ear to listen to their stories.
One group went to Feeding America SWVA and two groups went to the Habitat Store. All three groups helped with stocking shelves and light cleaning.
Ms. Patterson's advisory group helped with a new display at the Science Museum of Western Virgnia. Ms. Slaughter and Ms. Donnini's groups helped prep food at the Rescue Mission and cleaned the white fence around the facility.
We also had advisory groups at the SPCA, Healing Strides of Virginia, and the Greenway.
All of our students really helped make the day successful. The cooperative spirit and willingness to help helped make this one of the most successful Middle School Community Service days yet. A special thank you to all who contributed in any way.
