ROANOKE – Jordan Lowery ‘16 and Sarah Maurer ’16 signed National Letters of Intent today at a joint signing ceremony in the Carter Athletic Center. Family, friends, teachers, and coaches came out to support the two athletes and congratulate them on their commitments.
Lowery will join the football program at The College of William & Mary next year as a wide receiver. He played football at North Cross for four years, and during that time Lowery was consistently selected for ODFC All-Conference and VISAA All-State teams. He earned the North Cross football team’s 2015 MVP award, and he ended this past season with several school records on the books. These records include receptions (177), receiving yardage (3,093) and touchdown catches (39).
Head Football Coach Stephen Alexander and Head Girls’ Varsity Soccer Coach James Brown are incredibly proud of these athletes’ accomplishments as Raiders, and they look forward to seeing Lowery and Maurer continue to succeed at the college level.
“Jordan has maximized his many talents with an intense work ethic and focus,” said Coach Alexander. “He is an accomplished student-athlete who is deserving of all the accolades he has received. The same work ethic that made him successful here at North Cross, will shape his future at William & Mary and beyond.”
“Whether Sarah is on the field or in the goal she is not easily rattled and is able to take the pressure off of those who play around her,” said Coach Brown. “She is a tremendous athlete, who is technically sound with a high soccer IQ. Her willingness to do whatever is asked of her and her ability to execute under pressure truly makes her a remarkable player. Sarah has dedicated herself to the game of soccer, and I am so happy to see all of her hard work pay off.”
William & Mary Receivers Coach Winston October released the following statement regarding Lowery’s commitment:
“Jordan has a good mix of size and speed. His athleticism will be a great addition to our Wide Receiver corp.”
