Brett Jones '16 will continue his football career at Emory and Henry College next fall. Jones, a VISAA All-State performer on the offensive line, started every game of his four-year career at North Cross.
Jones made most of his 43 offensive line starts at center. He was also a stalwart on the Raiders’ defensive front, earning Second Team All-VISAA as a defensive lineman.
“Brett has been such an important part of our school and football program in his four years with us,” said Head Coach Stephen Alexander. “Obviously, someone as durable and dependable as Brett is extremely valuable, but he is also a tremendous citizen on campus and is very well-liked and respected by his peers and faculty.”
Jones was recruited by and considered a number of Division III schools in Virginia and surrounding states. His older brother, Chris Shelton, a 2011 North Cross graduate, played football for four years at Ferrum College.
“From the first time I went to Emory and Henry my heart was sold to go there,” Jones said. “They take football really serious, but have great academics at the same time.”
