You may have noticed a difference in carpool, as there was a lot of pink being worn. Students are donating $2.00 for the privilege of wearing blue jeans and pink, with the proceeds going toward breast cancer prevention. This money will be presented to Carilion’s Every Woman’s Life program at tonight’s Varsity Volleyball game against Parkway Christian Academy. The Raiders will be playing in pink and we encourage as many parents and students to join us at 6:00. Pack the gym in pink!
Our Parents’ Association had scheduled a back to school picnic along with the Boosters Club car wash, but given the current deluge, these will be cancelled. We will let you know if these are rescheduled as the get-togethers are great fun and a clean car benefits everyone while raising money to support our athletic program.
And finally, to satisfy the intellectual in you, on Thursday, October 6, we welcome Dr. Will Dichtel ’96 to campus as part of our CrossCurrents speaker series. Will is a 2015 recipient of a MacArthur Genius Grant, a $625,000 award for—you guessed it—something that requires genius. After he receives our Distinguished Alumnus Award, he will speak to our Upper School during our assembly period, teach a chemistry class, and then on to Virginia Tech to discuss nano-chemistry.
I can’t promise that your child will grow up to be a genius like Dr. Dichtel, as those teachers who were around when he was a student here say he was pretty special. But I can tell you that when you take advantage of all that is happening on our campus, you have a better chance of great things happening. Keep your eyes open for opportunities and I will see you there. There has never been a better time to be at North Cross.
Hope to see you here.
