I completely understand how these awards work and I appreciate all of you who took the time to vote for us. But let me just say, speaking for our school, that it really does feel good to be recognized in so many ways. There are approximately 100 full-time employees at North Cross School and while we don’t always get it right, we all work very hard to create the most dynamic educational opportunity possible. In particular, let me congratulate our ECP team, the folks in our CrossWalk Program, Victor Lamas, and Lisa Cone. Your awards are well deserved and well earned.
It is precisely initiative that makes us “Best of.” It is Malcolm Douglas creating a citywide summer internship program for our Upper School students. It is Amy Bagliani and Jen Landry developing our STEM program, Mariana Hermosilla creating a Middle and Upper School student exchange with a school in Mendoza, Argentina. It is Karen List leading the formation of an Educational Foundation to make our school more affordable. Think about all of the events that make North Cross unique: Colonial Day, Talon, the Wax Museum, the Washington and Williamsburg trips. Each of these were created by teachers taking the initiative to do something special.
While we should be justifiably proud of our public recognition, we should be most pleased that we have built and sustained a culture of continuous improvement. As Lee Iacocca once said, “you have to lead, follow, or get out of the way.” At North Cross, we choose to lead.
