Our guests arrived, hearing the James Bond 007 theme music, seeing the skylights, shining black BMW, and silhouettes along the walkway. They stepped on the red carpet, and all were welcomed as they entered our transformed venue, where more surprises awaited. The committee’s goal was to make From Roanoke With Love an evening of dinner, dancing, and James Bond elegance, sophistication, and fun – a great party, with great food, a great band, and some really cool auction items.
As everyone looked around the dazzling room filled with its warm lighting, delightful aromas, and elegant candle lit tables adorned with red roses, the committee members knew they were indeed hosting a special community night.
Our North Cross families, community, and area businesses continue to be wonderfully and generously supportive.
It takes a lot to execute an event of our Gala’s scale; and it is important to acknowledge those who volunteered their leadership, service, time, effort, and dollars to make it all happen. Once again, by holding it on our own campus, we were able to deliver more food and entertainment to our guests, provide parking, and comfortably host the Gala. Our location eases the logistical strain and stress on our school staff, on the caterers, and all others associated with executing such a large special event.
We want to thank From Roanoke With Love’s chairs, Robin and Bob Sells. Not only did they lead the event, they were also our Presenting Sponsors and we thank them for leading the 2016 Gala. Their smiles, dedication, leadership, encouragement, and attention to detail - as an example, Bob built the red London phone booth himself - made all the work leading up to, including, and finishing all that needed to be done, both fun and rewarding. Their daughter, Lauren, did a wonderful job taking pictures, too. It takes a lot to coordinate the many parts of Gala, and their efforts led us to a successful and enjoyable Saturday night!
Bob Sells did a fantastic job as auctioneer, and Jill and Jim Woltz and David Boush gave us their professional assistance to make the most of the wonderful donations we received from the live auction. Bob cheerfully encouraged people to pay attention and bid generously to support the school.
Thank you, Gala Committee! You all came together enthusiastically, and you planned and worked together to execute a memorable and enjoyable evening with very successful Online, Silent, and Live Auctions. Your attention to detail in carrying out the “Bond, James Bond” evening was impressive, and we enjoyed what Jennifer Alexander, Novie Bateman, Sarah Blum, Jennifer Burtch, Elise DeMoss, Cheryl Glose, Liz Graham, Maria Hammond, Pam Haskins, Amy Lowman, Lisa Lusk, Puppie McCloskey, Victoria McDade, Pam Moskal, Ashley Phelps, Tammy Snyder, Angela Thomas, and Brenda Wilson accomplished.
A significant portion of Gala’s revenues came from the generous support of our sponsors.
We want to thank our $10,000 level Presenting Sponsors, Robin and Bob Sells who made the significant gift to recognize our faculty and staff and enabled them to attend without cost.
We want to thank our $5,000 level Gold Sponsor, Vistar Eye Center. Thank you to our $2,500 Silver Sponsors – Anderson & Friedman, Attorneys at Law; Business Solutions, Inc.; Donna and John Batzel; Catawba Capital Management; Cherry Bekaert: CPAs & Advisors; HomeTown Bank; Jefferson Surgical Clinic; McDade Travel; Pam and Joe Moskal; Roanoke Cement; Rutherfoord; and Chris Smith and Kent Blackburn. Thank you, Russ and Heather Ellett, for purchasing an additional table for our faculty and staff.
Thank you to each of you who purchased tickets for the night - we truly hope you had a great evening. Thanks to those who took the Bond theme to heart and expressed it in so many fun ways - you added another spark to our evening!

Thank you, Jennifer Alexander and Lisa Lusk for their help with our logo and theme. You enabled us to have an attractive and professional feel to everything associated with the event.
Thank you to Elise DeMoss and Jennifer Burtch for greeting our guests with their smiles as they welcomed everyone and checked people in. Thank you to Rachel Wylie and Mike Atkins for doing such a great job with coat check. Thanks to Elise and Zack DeMoss and Lisa Havens for all their help with check out, and our auction website. Thank you, Cheryl Glose, for all your help with the auction website and the many items entered and pictures taken. It was the third year with our new auction software, and we are very pleased that our processes continue to go very smoothly.
Pam Moskal and Elise DeMoss, thank you for working with Lee Kephart and our other teachers and for the time you spent with students in the design and production of the very creative student art pieces. To our teachers who provided teacher experiences and special items for our evening – thank you. We were pleased that you were with us, too, and very pleased that our community raised so much in professional development dollars so you can continue to help our students be as good as they can be.
Thank you to Shawn Lee, Buck Rhodenheizer, Rafael Lopez, Raymond Wade, Emma Webb, Patrick Jennings, Marvin Brandon, and Josh Pratt for your enthusiasm and hard work preparing for Gala, helping to make the CAC shine for our event, and helping return it quickly to its daily functions. Thank you to Eric Lawrence, Jenn Mitchell, and Tracy Schaefer for your support with the CAC and for clearing scheduled activities so we could hold the Gala here.
GrooveTown, your music was upbeat and fun, and we were glad to get out on the floor and dance with you. StageSound did a wonderful job helping us plan and execute a lighting plan that transformed our venue to the look and feel we desired, and were most generous in their support of our budget. Aztec Rentals supplied us the necessary items to decorate our space and keep within our budget. Total Table, Inc.’s linens made the tables pop with color and set a wonderful mood for the night, topped off by Novie Bateman’s exquisite red rose floral arrangements. Thank you, Ellie Proctor, for the use of so many of your lamps, candle sticks, and lanterns. For coordinating all of the elegant decorations - for the third year in a row - thank you, Pam Haskins and Sarah Blum. So many have been so impressed with how you have transformed the Carter Athletic Center into such an elegant and inviting ballroom.
We want to thank Tracy Hamilton, Martha Garst, and Tracy’s service and bartending team for the delicious food they prepared and served to our guests. They were professional and added much to the positive feelings people had about the night. Thank you, Lisa and Rob Lusk and Bubblecake, for the delicious cupcakes. Thank you, chocolatepaper, for donating the wonderful chocolates for our sponsors’ tables.
To all those who donated items for our auctions, their homes and their time, and to all those who purchased items, and to anyone I forgot to mention – thank you. With your help, we made this an evening to remember as we shared our campus with our community to host a great event.
Thank you, Sherry Frantz and Frantz Diamonds, not only for the lovely one-of-a-kind diamond pendant, but also for sponsoring the high end Scotch and Bourbon lounge. Many enjoyed the chance to make donations to the school in exchange for tastings. Thank you, John Lawson, for sharing your knowledge of these spirits with our guests.
To those who invited prospective families to sit at their tables, thank you for helping to bring new students and families to meet our parents, friends, faculty, and staff.
Thank you, Jonathan Seidel, for helping our sponsors with parking; and thank you, Jerry Savage, for driving our courtesy bus and giving our guests that needed lift to and from their cars. Thank you, Scott Smith and the Boosters. With so many parent and student volunteers, cleaning up on Sunday was done efficiently. It is great to see such enthusiastic and energetic help - thank you for the teams and parents who promoted this effort.
Gala is a wonderful community event and a chance to come together for fun. The dollars we raise in sponsorships, table sales, ticket sales, and the sale of donated items are anticipated revenue in our annual operating budget. Gala proceeds support the education and experiences of each and every North Cross student and help make this a very special place.
Thank you, all!
