This morning, Rebecca Benson ’17 presented her DeHart Speech topic to the Upper School assembly. Her talk, entitled: Nature and Its Effect on People, discussed the ways in which spending time outdoors can help a person's health, happiness and satisfaction in life. In contrast, she cited the recent rise in childhood obesity rates and tendency toward sedentary lifestyles, such as video games and television, as a detriment to our population's health. The talk was inspired by her time spent in a low-tech summer camp (one outlet and lightbulb per cabin) over the past several years.
