In my recent interactions with families visiting our school, I’m pleased to hear about all the things they notice. They remark on the orderly demeanor in our classrooms, they hear and see our faculty engaged with our students, they are impressed with our lower students’ cursive handwriting and comfort with Spanish, they appreciate Ms. Hamlin talking about getting along with others, and they notice the smiles on the faces of our students. They comment on the diversity of our student body and our safe campus feel. Because of a robust website, each comes to our school with an appreciation of the many things that happen here and each has walked away with a favorable impression of what they have experienced. It’s fun showing people around and sharing why we think this place is so very special.
The senior speeches have begun and they remind me that these are among the many unique experiences our students have. During their years in the Upper School, every student will hear seniors deliver over 150 speeches. I watched Rosalie Zhao speak and perform as she presented the relationship between the Chinese economy and the zheng and Bruce Farrell as he spoke about how Nelson Mandela’s story moved him. At the Academic Awards assembly, it was great to see 75% of our new students earn honor roll, joining the many current students whose hard work receives recognition. Each of these was among the many special moments I have been blessed to witness.
This is truly a place where more happens, and I’m so thankful my job makes it possible to illustrate and present it to others.
Thanks to so many of our parents who are talking about the great things they and their children are experiencing. (If you have someone I should call who may be interested in joining the North Cross family, please pass their name along!). We are beginning to see strong admission activity, particularly in our ECP and Lower School—people are interested in seeing the nurturing environment and how well our teachers prepare our students with the skills to succeed. We are beginning to develop waiting lists for our rising 4th, 7th and 9th grades and ECP2 and ECP3 are almost at capacity—exciting news for a director of admission. It’s great to see the interest in North Cross.
Have a wonderful holiday, filled with health, happiness, friends, family, and many blessings.
David Lake, Director of Admission
