My first year as the Director of Counseling at North Cross School has been exciting as well as rewarding. The first half of the year was geared toward the following character themes: honesty, cooperation, courage, compassion, and respect. Students in the Lower School have been encouraged to think critically about each trait and give examples of how each trait is intertwined in their daily lives. More recently, the month of February was dedicated specifically toward sportsmanship. Upper school students shared their own experiences of sportsmanship with the lower school students. They discussed experiences from when they were their age, as well as recent encounters of positive sportsmanship here at North Cross School.
Middle school students have engaged in a wide array of topics for Health 6 since the beginning of the school year. Topics include nutrition, drugs and alcohol awareness, conflict resolution, and how to be effective communicators and mediators among peers when issues arise. In addition, we recently finished a unit on digital citizenship. Students were highly engaged!
The Upper school Wellness class for 9th graders has been a positive force in study skills, time management, growth mindset, and drug and alcohol awareness. I will be working with the final group of 9th graders during the spring term.
