Second graders from Mrs. Vagt's class learned a lesson of compassion during a guidance lesson with Mrs. Hamlin on Wednesday. Students were asked how they could show compassion and friendship to a Grinch.
The second graders discussed the positive impact of compassion and generosity to others. Students presented their ideas to the class. Ideas included giving the Grinch a McDonald's Happy Meal or a candy cane. One student would ask the Grinch to draw pictures together while another would invite the Grinch home for Christmas dinner.
Fourth and fifth grade science students, working with Betsy Cook, finished their "personal greenhouse" project, with completely different results than predicted. Each student placed a dried Lima bean on a moist paper towel, sealed it in a ziploc bag, and taped it to a sunny window. The students expected to watch the stages of germination which are normally hidden in the soil-- emergence of the first roots and stems.
