On Monday, the Upper School students were welcomed by SCA Advisor Susan Wenk and Parents' Association President Susan Card for a special recognition assembly. The SCA sponsored the awards, the first of their kind at the school, which aim to recognize the contributions from students within each class of the Upper School (within and outside of the SCA) for their contributions beyond the classroom. The ten students honored were: Isaac Harris ’20, Grace Wenk ’19, Everett Ward Jr. ’18, Charlie Card ’19, Margo Winn ’18, Maurice Garrison Jr. ’18, Sulan Yan ’17, Remus Li ’17, Shaida Campbell ’17, and SCA President Lucas Arnold ’17. In her remarks for each student, Mrs. Wenk illustrated the many ways these students have improved the lives of their classmates through support, leadership and contributions to school life.
Additionally, ECP-2 students were on hand to congratulate their mentors and to hand the seniors a special gift and their wishes for them in the coming year. The seniors then spent some time with their buddies before heading back to class. On Friday, the formal Fat Pencil Ceremony will honor the seniors who have been at North Cross for 12 years or more, when their ECP buddy will present them with the traditional red "fat" pencil, similar to the ones in which these same seniors learned to write for the first time in the Lower School. The ceremony begins at 8:30 in Fishburn Auditorium.
