North Cross students presented two public performances of Oklahoma! in Fishburn Auditorium on April 22 and 23.
Oklahoma! was the first collaboration between Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein and was considered the rebirth of musical theatre. he revolutionary musical that paved way for future book musicals.The book, the melody, and the dance were so intertwined that each element contributed to the success of the story. It was the first musical to include a dream ballet with the story and the lyrics being written before the music, which allowed everything to flow cohesively. This classic show is filled with popular songs like “Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin',” “The Surrey with the Fringe On Top,” “Many a New Day,” “The Farmer and The Cowman,” and “Oklahoma!”
Last summer, at our annual Board retreat, I asked each of our Board members to choose an individual they felt best represented who they wanted a North Cross graduate to emulate. This is always an interesting icebreaker as it tells you something about the interests of each Board member. Most importantly, though, for the purposes of our retreat, it provided us with a list of characteristics we felt should be valued at North Cross
