Fifth grade reading and language arts classes working with Ms. Lisa Cone participated in the “Marshmallow Challenge” activity popularized by Tom Wujec. In the challenge, students work in teams and have eighteen minutes to build the tallest free-standing structure possible using 20 sticks of spaghetti, one yard of tape, one yard of string, and one marshmallow. The marshmallow needs to be on top.
“I was impressed with their teamwork, communication, and perseverance,” Ms. Cone said. “The Class of 2023 has some impressive minds! In the end, the height of the towers didn't matter; the process taught the most important lessons... Communicate. Work together as a team. Change the plan if it isn't working. Never give up. It isn't over until it's over.”
