Big Flea Sale
Over 4,500 people visited the Carter Athletic Center for a day of bargains, and the proceeds benefit the school.
Big Crowds, Big Impact, Big Success
Thank you to the Big Flea committee, led by Elise and Zack DeMoss, and thank you to the parents, students, faculty, staff, and friends of North Cross who volunteered, donated items, and all who shopped our 2016 Big Flea Sale. Through your combined efforts, the Big Flea Sale raised over $30,000 after expenses. In addition to the $30,000 raised, we truly helped and served our community. Through items donated, Big Flea was able to donate over $2,500 to teachers' classrooms, to after prom, and to other school areas of need. From donations to the Flea we were also able to serve the greater community, donating another $2,500 in items to organizations such as Child Health Investment Partnership, Turning Point, Ronald McDonald House, and Goodwill. This year was record-setting for the crowds brought to campus. Over 4,500 shoppers arrived as early as 5 a.m. and our cashiers recorded over 1,750 sales transactions.
Big Flea is a true community event. It takes a lot of people to make it all happen, and we thank each and every one of you who volunteered. If you were part of the Saturday (April 2nd) unload day, you were part of the largest and most productive volunteer day anyone can remember. It was both a fun and busy work day, with over 125 students, parents, faculty, staff, and friends, a true beehive of activity that gave us the best start on Big Flea in years! Thank you PA, thank you Boosters, thank you students - though your terrific efforts that Saturday, the rest of the busy work week from Sunday through Friday was less stressful and we were ready earlier than ever. It was great to see the feeling of accomplishment on the faces of our students and the amazed looks on the Big Flea committee's faces when they saw it all!
To all the folks who worked during the week sorting through and hanging clothing, sports equipment, housewares, holiday decorations, electronics, furniture, backpacks, purses, and all of the other items donated and sold - thank you so much for all your effort and time. We enjoyed witnessing the interactions on the teams and saw how much people enjoyed being with one another as they worked away. And to all our faculty and staff, students and parents who worked the day of the event, we commend you on the way you welcomed the shoppers, kept up with the tremendous pace of the day, and kept such a wonderful spirit. Thank you to our dedicated volunteers who stayed after the sale to help clean up. And thank you to the four students who came Sunday to help us with the final cleanup.
The Big Flea Sale was a big success because it brought our own community together and served both our own school and the community outside our school. Though we measure success in dollars raised to support the tuition paid by every family for each student, we also measure success by the involvement of our community and the people we help through our sale.
Our goal for 2017 is to have 100% of our 340 families and 112 faculty and staff members involved in the event. It is an event that everyone can take part in and feel good about their contribution of time.
